About Dr. Al-Attar

Ali Al-Attar, M.D., is a plastic surgeon in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. His practice focuses on breast reconstruction after cancer, and on aesthetic (cosmetic) surgery of the face, nose, breast, and abdomen. He has published extensively and has presented his work at national meetings, and was trained by the finest surgeons in the United States.

Dr. Al-Attar was raised in Potomac, Maryland, and attended the Landon School. He went to Georgetown University for college, and upon graduation entered the combined MD/PhD program at Georgetown Medical School. After considering all of the finest training programs in plastic surgery, he entered the program at Georgetown University Hospital which had the world’s premier plastic surgeons in wound healing (Christopher Attinger) and plastic surgery of the breast (Scott Spear). Following six years in residency training, he then was selected to attend the country’s oldest and most prestigious fellowship program in aesthetic surgery at the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital in New York City. During this year-long fellowship, he learned aesthetic plastic surgery from the country’s top plastic surgeons: Sherrell J. Aston, Alan Matarasso, Nicolas Tabbal, Gerald Pitman, and Daniel Baker—legends in plastic surgery who are the surgeons of choice for the world’s most discriminating patients. After his year in New York, Dr. Al-Attar then returned to Georgetown University Hospital to work with his former chairman, Scott L. Spear, as his fellow in plastic surgery of the breast. Scott Spear is the eminent expert in plastic surgery of the breast, and has revolutionized breast reconstruction. Ali Al-Attar worked with Scott Spear in both his clinical practice as well as in his research studies, advancing the science and the art of breast reconstruction.

After many years in academic institutions, Dr. Al-Attar established his private practice in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. With a main office in Northern Virginia and a satellite office in suburban Maryland, they serve patients in this region as well as patients from New York, other parts of the United States, and international patients.
